June's Flower - Iris

The name Iris is Greek and means 'rainbow', for it's many colours. Most cut iris's are shades of blue or purple, but in the garden you can also find white, yellow and brown.

The iris has been around for many centuries, and many artists have chosen to paint them. There are several famous paintings of the flowers. From 1888 to 1890, Van Gogh painted at least four paintings of irises. Monet painted "Iris" sometime between 1914 and 1917. In flower language the Iris means faith, hope, wisdom and valour.
